My interest in Art began at Secondary School
and continued through Teachers Training College into the class
room. I taught at both Primary and Secondary levels, but was
able more particularly at the Primary level to use my love
of art as a vehicle in the development of other skills with
pupils. I prefer abstract painting - it allows me to develop
from the imagination in a form which is free and unrestricted
by precision and convention.I am influenced by colour and
often this will be the motivation for a painting. As i have
Maori ancestry, a lot of my work will contain elements of
tikanga -customs and culture or whakapono -beliefs. I also
draw inspiration from tribal legends.
I have contributed to group exhibitions in Auckland, Hamilton,
Gisborne and Napier and have had pieces in galleries in Rotorua,
Taupo and Napier.
